A successful British writer, who writes on behalf of others, as a ghost writer, agrees to finish the memoires of Adam Lang, the former British premiere. The writer’s agent insures him that it is a chance of a lifetime. However, the project seems to be cursed from the start – among all, also because the writer’s forebear on the project of writing the memoires, a close associate of Lang’s, got killed under strange circumstances. The Ghost Writer heads off to a house on an island, in the vicinity of the Unites States coast, to commence the writing. On the day of his arrival a certain British politician accuses Lang of being accountable for illegal arrests of terrorism suspects, and for their secret handover to the CIA that resulted in torture. For this devious act he is rendered a war criminal, journalists start invading his house on the shore where the Writer was staying with Lang, his wife and lover. Moreover, during the work on the book, the Writer begins to discover series of details that connect Lang to the CIA and comes to realize that his unfortunate forebear, whose manuscript may hold vital information, did the same.
