On 17th May at 8 PM the 22nd International Festival for Children’s Theatres will be opened on the stage of the Jadran theatre. 

Before the opening ceremony of the Festival, at 7 PM in the Modern Gallery of Subotica an exhibition will be opened focusing on puppetry art of Hungary “100 years – 100 puppets”.


The festival will close on 22nd May, and in this year’s edition all relevant performances for children will go on stage. For 6 days Subotica will become the global center of art for children in theatres, on streets and squares, exhibitions, cinema, library promoting books, etc.


During the opening ceremony Slobodan Markovic, the festival’s director will hand over the “Little Prince” awards for Lifetime Achievement to our acknowledged composer, photograph, author and TV host - Minja Subota and Panco Pancev, children’s theatre writer from Bulgaria.


Michael Davenport, Head of the Delegation of the EU to Serbia, Jene Maglai, Mayor of Subotica, Radoslav Petkovic, deputy Secretary for Culture of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Radoslav Pavlovic, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Serbia will address the ceremony’s participants, while the festival will be officially opened by Minja Subota.


The selector of the festival, Slobodan Markovic selected 18 theatre performances from 15 countries. The performances will be performed on three stages: in the Kosztolanyi Dezso Theatre, National Theatre-Jadran stage, and the stage of the Children’s Theatre. The festival’s jury will decide on the following prizes: Grand Prix of the Festival for the Best Performance, Special Prize for the Original Expression and Fantasy (optional), Prize for the Best Direction, Prize for the Best Stage Design, Prize for the Best Original Music, Prize for the Best Puppet Design, Prize for Acting Skills (5 equal prizes).


During the festival the 7th International Research College of Theatre Arts for Children and Young People will be held with the theme: Postmodern disintegration of theatre arts.


The International Festival of Children’s Theatres is organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia, Provincial Secretariat for Culture of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, the City of Subotica and the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia. Executive producer of the festival is the Open University Subotica.
