From 16th to 18th January, for the first time in Serbia, the audience will be able to watch the latest British films at the same time in ten towns across the country. The audience of the Eurocinema will have the opportunity to learn about the new wave of British film.

British cinematography is one of the favorites of our audience, in the past couple of years it promoted authors who attract a lot of attention through their creations. The aim of the festival “Fish and Chips” is to present the new names to a greater number of film lovers, which is the basic concept of screening the whole of the programme simultaneously. This way we also wish to contribute to the better distribution of art films across Serbia before the digitalization of most of the cinemas.

The festival will be opened by one of the surprises of the last year, X+Y of Morgan Matthews, which was screened last year on the London Film Festival. Critics of this funnily bitter story gave a special mention to the powerful creation of young Asa Butterfield, who was nominated to almost all British film actor’s award.

The audience will have the opportunity to watch one of the most successful British films of the recent past – Pride by Matthew Warchus. After the award in Cannes and the nomination for the Golden Globe in the USA, this comedy has been recently proclaimed to be the best British independent film, which is like an island match for Dragojević’s “Pride” film. Comedy in the traditional humor of “The Full Monty” or “Billy Elliot” based on the true story of LGBT activists in 1984 helping a strike of minerworkers against the government of Margaret Thatcher.

The documentary “The Possibilities are Endless” is also on the programme of rare beauty and powerful sensitivity, one of the best films of the last year. The authors follow Edwyn Collins the front man of the popular band from the 80s, Orange Juice, after surviving a stroke in attempt to get back his life. The critic of the Guardians called the film an “experience which at the same time intimidates and is deep” and gave the highest points possible.

The audience of the 10 Serbian cities will have the chance to see the film “You (Us) Me” of Max Sobol. The film is about an unbelievable love story between a serial killer man and a woman wanting to commit suicide. The film which is in the same time deeply disturbing and utterly funny and truly touching was proclaimed by the critics as one of the most original directorial debut of the past years.

The final film of the “Film and Chips” festival will be the film “Lilting” of Hong Khaou. This is one of the most convincing debuts of the past years in British cinematography, which had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and was immediately selected to the programme of the Berlinale. It is an exciting film with a delicate story of a mother who just lost her son and her lover, who culturally differs from her, even in language.

On the programme there will be 8 short films from the competition selection for the well known BAFTA award. Among them is the animated film “Sleeping with the fishes”, in the making of this film Nikola Medic, a young sound engineer from Belgrade was also involved.
