On Friday, 24th October at 6 PM in the 213 room of the Open University Subotica a lecture will be held with the topic “Children and young people with special needs in the modern society of integration, inclusion and delusion.

Within the international event “Days of Intelligence”, the Mensa Serbia in cooperation with acknowledged education institutions and various organizations, organizes a big number of testing and expert lectures in various fields. This is the seventh in the series of lectures of popular topic in the fields of science, economy, education and culture organized by the Mensa in Subotica and the Open University Subotica.
We are inviting you to join the lecture which is aiming to focus on inclusion as a motion, process and motto in Serbia, and to evaluate the current performance and success as well as perspective.

Short description of the lecture: the lecture includes the definition of key phrases, features of modern society, possibility of participation of children and young people with special needs in all segments of modern society, rights and obligations of all relevant actors, “design for all”, “school for all”, prejudices and stereotypes about people with special needs, sources of resistance for integration of persons with special needs, “yes, but not in my house”, silent segregation and possibility to change the status of children and young people with special needs in the future.

Target group: parents of children with special needs, professionals working with children – teachers, experts, professors, special educator and other employees in health care, social protection, education, students and others interested in the topic.

Short biography of the lecturer: Marinela Šćepanović, MA in defectology, president of the Association of special teachers of Vojvodina, author of many projects dealing with children and young people with special needs, and of publications in the fields of special education and rehabilitation.
