The French Film Caravan will visit our cinema on 5th May, this time with French classics. This will be a great treat to all film lovers and French cinematography admirers, as well as a great opportunity for those wanting to learn more about French cinematography. Entrance is free.

5th May, 7 PM
Hiroshima My Love (France, Japan, 1959, 92’)

Director: Alain Resnais
Cast: Emanuelle Riva, Eiji Okada, Bernard Fresson
This is the first feature-length film of Alain Resnais, along with Truffaut's „The 400 blows“, and Godard's „Breathless“, which are the cultic trilogy of the new French wave. In this movie a French actress filming an anti-war film in Hiroshima has an affair with a married Japanese architect as they share their differing perspectives on war.

Pépé le Moko (France, 1937, 93’)

Cast: Jean Gabin, Gabriel Gabrio, Mireille Balin
Pépé le Moko is a gangster from Paris that hides in Algier's Casbah. In the Casbah, he is safe and is able to elude the police's attempts to capture him. But he misses his freedom, after two years in the Casbah. He meets a gorgeous Parisian tourist, Gaby, and they fall in love. Native inspector Slimane tries to use her to attract Pépé out of the Casbah in order to catch him.

The red circle is undoubtedly one of the best creations of the French cinematography, showing the destiny of several persons having different motivations, but one common thread – loneliness.
