In the UK 4 charity organizations jointly organized the new global initiative under the title “Youth Job Creation Summit”. Youth unemployment is identified as one of the greatest global problems in economy. In unstable countries unemployment of young people can reach up to 50-60% of the total number of the unemployed, in Serbia this data is 52%.
The “Youth Job Creation Summit” was held in London from 13th till 15th September, and gathered 150 participants from various countries and organizations. The keynote speakers were Lord Young, enterprise advisor of UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development. The Open University Subotica as a leading institution in lifelong learning in Serbia attended the Summit.

On the summit the following issues were discussed in workshops:


1. Making Change Happen
2. Digital economy
3. Measuring results of youth employment interventions
4. Social enterprise
5. Public and private sector collaboration
6. Root and branch reform of education
7. Getting the media onside
8. International collaboration


At the end of the summit the participants discussed in 3 round table discussions the following issues:


1. Major Policy Asks
2. Effective Employability and Entrepreneurship Education
3. Agreeing Common Metrics on the Job Creation field


The participants agreed on future cooperation and to integrate the defined recommendations in their work. Our institution will use the examples of good practice from the summit and together with the new partners elaborate new programmes for young people to contribute to the employment of young people in Serbia.
