Why learn lymphatic drainage?

Lymphatic drainage is a technique commonly used as part of therapeutic treatment of edema (swelling). It is mostly used in treating the lower extremities (legs), although it can be used on the other parts of the body in medically indicated cases, but only if it is done by a specialized therapist (e.g. post-mastectomy edema of the arm in breast cancer patients, etc.). Lymphatic drainage can be performed manually or by using machines, and it is not limited to medical cases only. It is widespread in everyday cosmetology due to its efficiency. Particularly good results can be achieved by using this method in treating cellulite in women and reducing swelling in the eye area (under-eye bags).

Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will have acquired knowledge of human anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system and will be qualified to perform manual lymphatic drainage. The best results in using lymphatic drainage can be achieved if a problem is diagnosed properly.
Learners will be skilled in using the Globwell Body Analyzer diagnostic machine to determine the quantity and position of fat and cellulite, damage to connective tissues, muscle weight and muscle tone, the stress level, arterial and venous peripheral blood circulation, the relationship between potassium and sodium, the total liquid amount (intracellular and extracellular), the cells' functions, the hydration level of the skin layers, and the physical potential of a client. Once those problematic zones are defined, learners will know how to open the lymphatic system and drain certain parts of the body (e.g. spinal cord, head, arms, legs, stomach, and chest).

Instruction and length of courses
Courses for manual lymphatic drainage last three months. Learners are placed in groups where the theoretical and practical training are performed at a custom-equipped cosmetic salon at the Open University. All necessary materials and textbooks are provided.
Upon successful completion of the theoretical and practical parts of the exam, all candidates are issued with a certificate as a specialist for manual lymphatic drainage by the Open University.

Registration, enrolment and payment
Enrolment is possible continuously throughout the year. Instalment plans are offered for all educational programmes.
